Acupuncture in support of the NHS and GP services

by | Jun 19, 2021 | Acupuncture and Western Medicine, Coronavirus

Rising numbers of patients needing care, combined with a shortage of doctors is causing huge pressure on GP surgeries nationwide. After fifteen months of lockdown restrictions and millions of delayed and cancelled appointments, GPs are now seeing what one doctor described as a “tsunami of patients” needing care.

This situation is hardly surprising given the fact that so many medical services have been put on hold over the last year. We are now starting to see the effects of these measures, with huge backlogs of patients needing to see a doctor and many more struggling on at home, unable to access either a telephone or online appointment with their GP.

The problem is being compounded by significant numbers of people seeking help with mental health problems like anxiety and depression, as well as patients with conditions that have now worsened while waiting for treatment.

Acupuncture is here to help

Acupuncture is a well-established and effective form of care for many of the conditions people are seeking help with from their GPs. My approach is always to look at the whole person, not just a list of symptoms, and my acupuncture treatments address the underlying cause of a problem rather than suppressing it like medications do.
Acupuncture is shown to be beneficial for a wide range of common health issues including:

  • Pain (arthritis and joint pain, sports injuries, back pain)
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Digestive issues: heartburn, reflux, bloating, constipation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Women’s health (perimenopause, menopause, endometriosis, painful periods, PMS)
  • Immune support
  • And particularly relevant at this time of year: hayfever and seasonal allergies.

This is what one client had to say after seeing me for help with managing hayfever:

The last few summers have been truly miserable – avoiding taking antihistamines because I want to avoid pharmaceuticals but spending 3-4 months with red, weeping eyes, a constant running nose and an itching throat impossible to scratch…I had 6 sessions with Tiziana through the beginning of the hay fever season and my symptoms are virtually non-existent. I am truly in awe of what she has done for me.

During a consultation I will also discuss nutrition and lifestyle measures with you. These recommendations enable you to get the most out of your treatments in-between appointment times and support your journey to whole-body health.

Acupuncture: safe and hygienic

My clinic has always had stringent hygiene measures in place, even before the arrival of Covid-19. I abide by the Code of Safe Practice issued by the British Acupuncture Council and make sure my practice room is prepared for each client by:

  • Using disinfectant wipes and hand sanitiser
  • Sanitising the couch and changing the paper couch roll after each appointment
  • Keeping my uniform clean and well maintained
  • Using the highest quality single use needles
  • Disposing of needles quickly and safely after use

You can be assured that your comfort and care is always my priority.
