Break The Cycle of Chronic Lower Back Pain!

Back pain is the largest cause of absence from work in the UK and regularly affects 9.6 million people. That adds up to a lot of days off work so it makes good economic sense to use effective treatments that work deeply and have positive sustainable effects on back health – not just numb the pain with drugs everyday!

I deal with a whole range of back care issues in my Clinic: sports injuries, pregnancy back pain, strains, compressed discs, muscle tension – there are many problems that affect our backs and we need to take good care of them.

Poor Posture Can Trigger Chronic Back Pain

This is one of the main triggers for back pain. Sleeping on an old worn out mattress, not having the car seat in the correct position, sitting slumped at a desk with the computer keyboard at the wrong height: a typical day can place a huge amount of stress and compression on the spinal column and back muscles, it’s no wonder they complain!

Wearing ill-fitting shoes (especially high heels) and carrying heavy bags are other factors that influence posture and back health. Remember, your spine is already carrying your head which typically weighs around 4-5kg so be mindful of how heavy you want your bag to be too!

A recent article in ‘Woman’ magazine highlighted the problem of chronic lower back pain. The journalist was only 32 years old yet she felt far older and was often unable to walk because of the pain.

She had tried ditching her high heels, and this hadn’t helped much – so, what was else could be done?

Acupuncture Influences Pain Processing in Brain

One of the issues we face when dealing with chronic lower back pain (CLBP) is the way in which the brain deals with pain signals. Research from China has shown how sufferers of CLBP have less connectivity in areas of the brain called the Default Mode Network which handle pain and emotional processing.

Using MRI scans, the scientists were able to show how 4 weeks of acupuncture treatments restored connections in the DMN areas of the participants’ brains, which subsequently led to reductions in pain.

Many years of research into Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture have shown how the treatments also:

  • Stimulate the release of endorphins, the bodys own pain killing chemicals
  • Stimulate the production of a range of natural anti-inflammatory messengers
  • Improve blood flow and circulation to relieve muscle stiffness and improve mobility
  • So for lasting proven back pain relief, opt for TCM Acupuncture and regain your freedom, flexibility and love of life!
