Coming Out of Lockdown: Is Acupuncture Safe?

by | May 18, 2020 | Coronavirus

The Covid-19 outbreak has certainly made people aware of the importance of good hygiene for disease prevention.

I want to take this opportunity to reassure you and all my clients about the high standards of hygiene and care in my clinic – high standards that have been in place ever since I began practising acupuncture 14 years ago.

Infection control and Acupuncture

As a hands-on therapy, acupuncture requires the utmost care and cleanliness. The Code of Safe Practice issued by the British Acupuncture Council sets out the standards I must meet and maintain every single day, not just during a viral pandemic.

I make sure my practice room is clean and safe for every client by:

  • Using disinfectant wipes and handwash
  • Practising regular handwashing
  • Sanitising the couch and changing the paper couch roll after each appointment
  • Keeping my uniform clean and well maintained
  • Using the best quality single use needles
  • Disposing of needles quickly and safely

These measures have ensured that in 14 years of practise I have never caught anything from a client or passed anything on. Even during my time as an acupuncturist on board cruise ships where I worked through 3 outbreaks of the highly contagious Norovirus and never fell ill once.

Amidst all the fear and uncertainty this virus has brought, I want you to know you can trust my safety standards and feel comfortable coming for treatments.

Acupuncture after lockdown – how can it help?

It has been heart breaking for me to have to stop practising during this crisis. The arrival of Covid-19 didn’t mean that all other health conditions disappeared – far from it! People are more in need than ever of safe effective healthcare and unfortunately the NHS has had to pull back many of their usual services.

On top of this, the stress and uncertainty of lockdown is increasing people’s symptoms of pain, low mood, depression, and anxiety – all of which can benefit from the holistic approach acupuncture provides.

Acupuncture is an established and effective form of care for a wide range of conditions including:

I provide individualised care for all my clients that includes acupuncture, and nutrition and lifestyle advice. I aim to understand the root cause of your condition and support your health on level far deeper than any one-size-fits-all medication can.

If you are struggling with your health and would like to look forward to a course of acupuncture treatments once my Clinic reopens (which it will do at the earliest opportunity!) please get in touch as soon as possible.
