Acupuncture for back pain recommended by American College of Physicians

Only last year NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) changed its mind about recommending Acupuncture for back care, removing it from the list of non-invasive treatment options for back pain and sciatica.

Now, the American College of Physicians have released a document entitled ‘Non-invasive Treatments for Acute, Subacute, and Chronic Low Back Pain: A Clinical Practice Guideline from the American College of Physicians’ that includes Acupuncture, endorsing it for both acute and chronic back pain.

Confusing, huh!

This kind of contradictory advice is so unhelpful, especially when back pain sufferers are faced with the prospect of having to take strong medications just to make it through the day, and a long waiting list to receive any kind of NHS treatment such as physiotherapy.

The problem with these types of guidelines is the potential for bias and personal and institutional influences.  Alongside the American College of Physicians, two other US agencies reviewed the evidence for Acupuncture in 2016 and came to the same conclusion: Acupuncture is a safe, effective treatment for chronic back pain.  So, this makes 3 US bodies in favour of Acupuncture, and the UK NICE against it!

But what about those who matter – the back-pain sufferers?

Well, I have been successfully helping clients with back pain for many years!

This is what one client says about his experience with my Acupuncture;

I started with lower back pain which I put with for a couple of weeks, but as it got worse I started to take painkillers. Then I even had a course of six acupuncture treatments from another local acupuncturist but it made no difference.

So, I contacted Tiziana to see if she could fit me in as I know she is so busy. Because by that time I could barely get out of bed as I was in so much pain. She managed to see me quickly, which was great because she had helped me in the past, and the doctors had not helped me at all, even made me feel worse making me feel sick with really strong painkillers. Then after only one treatment with Tiziana I felt so much better. But I had put up with it too long, and let it get too bad. So, I needed to have another treatment.

Now I feel so much better, and I am back at work and best of all I am without pain!

Clients regularly report experiencing pain relief, improved flexibility and no need for any strong painkilling medications.

And as a Professional Member of ‘Backcare’ the national back care charity and a registered Appropriate Provider of Care under the NHS AQP (Any Qualified Provider) scheme you can rest assured of the quality and effectiveness of my Acupuncture for your back pain.
