I founded York Traditional Acupuncture back in 2011, after several years working in Australia, Slovenia, and on board a cruise ship in the Caribbean. I love York, having previously lived (in the nineties) here during my time as an Art History student at the University. It felt fantastic to return to this beautiful city and establish my acupuncture practice here.
And what an amazing ten years it has been! I’ve had the pleasure of working with hundreds of patients, dealing with conditions as diverse and varied as back pain, infertility, stopping smoking, migraine, chronic fatigue/ME, and menopausal syndrome. I see each patient as the individual they are and seek to address the underlying causes of their ill-health, enabling them to experience true healing.
Acupuncture is suitable for all ages and can be used for a vast range of conditions. In fact, the World Health Organisation has compiled a list of conditions for which Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture is known to be beneficial for. These include:
…and many, many more.
I complete many hours of Continuous Professional Development training each year to stay abreast of the latest developments in alternative medicine and enhance my practice. Six years ago, I travelled to China and did an internship at a hospital there, gaining first-hand experience of TCM Acupuncture in action.
Client testimonials are a strong factor in the success of my business. People feel a sense of trust when they see how well acupuncture has worked for others, and word of mouth is key to a thriving practice.
After a client has completed their course of acupuncture, they can leave an independent review of my services online. Their wonderful Testimonials – over 144 on one site alone! – have helped me to win awards on two review sites:
I was also awarded the Best Acupuncture Clinic in North Yorkshire by Alternative Medicine and Holistic Health Awards in 2018.
Other key factors in building client trust and a successful practice are my professional memberships and referrals. I enjoy working collaboratively with other practitioners and often receive referrals from GPs and Consultants, osteopaths, herbalists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, and massage therapists.
Equally, if I feel a client could benefit from another healing modality, I will recommend and refer to these practitioners too.
As a member of the British Acupuncture Council, I am subject to their professional codes of conduct and standards of practice. I am also an official Appropriate Provider of Care under the NHS AQP implementation pack for musculoskeletal services and support many clients who are dealing with chronic musculoskeletal pain and injury.
My other specialist registrations include being a recognised provider of care for Anxiety UK, BackCare (the national back care charity), and the Acupuncture Fertility Network, as well as being a Gold Award Therapist for the National Stop Smoking Centres.
During the recent lockdowns I have been able to continue working, as acupuncture is classed as an ancillary service to the NHS and I am classed as a Key/Frontline Healthcare worker. This means I have been able to continue providing important care to clients who are currently unable to access normal NHS services.
The pandemic lockdowns have increased distressing mental health symptoms and left many patients managing chronic pain due to postponed operations. Thankfully, I have still been able to provide care and support.
As I reach this milestone in my business, I’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to all my patients, fellow therapists, and acupuncture colleagues. I love what I do, and I love being part of the wellness/holistic healthcare industry. Thanks also to everyone who helps with the day to day running of my business; from the staff at the Raylor Centre, to my web design/SEO team.
Without the support of so many people, I would not be here, and my business would not be so successful and thriving. I look forward to working alongside you all in the next chapter of York Traditional Acupuncture.
